Here is a fabulous thank you letter from the MS Society in Nailsworth for the sterling fund raising efforts the Bowls Club made back on 9th March 2024. Have you been down to the green lately? If not, here's a teaser for the new green surrounds. You'll find some changes have been made to the clubhouse too!
Finally the rain stopped long enough for us to proceed with our first ever inter-company Bowls Bash Challenge at Nailsworth Mills Estate. With 20 pairs registered, two heats were needed to find our two finalists - The Ebley Enforcers versus The Morrisons Mashers! All down to the final end, the ladies of The Morrisons Mashers were victories and claimed the first every Chamberlain Shield, donated here by Jasper Chamberlain himself. The feedback from everyone about how much fun the whole event was has been excellent and the club management team would like to thank all those members who helped to make it happen. Mostly we would like to thank both Jasper and Tim for their enthusiasm for putting on the event in the first place. We will be planning next year's very soon so look out for the date and get it in the diary for 2024. Jasper Chamberlain presents the first ever Great NME Bowls Bash Challenge Shield to worthy winners Lyn Townsend and Lynn Brown of W.Morrisons Supermarkets Ltd "The Morrisons Mashers".
We are sad to announce that long-standing NMBC member Bunny Coles passed away on 28th July 2023, aged 89 years.
On Thursday 24th August many of our members attended the Memorial Service of a dear friend and fellow member and a great ambassador for the club and the game of bowls. He loved his community and served for many years in the Fire Service. Bunny had lived in the Nailsworth area since childhood and has been an active and accomplished member of our bowls club and a regular skittles player. The photo below is of Bunny receiving his 100th Badge for playing for the County. We are all extremely proud and privileged to have known him. Our condolences to all his family. May he rest in peace. On Wednesday evening 2nd August from 6pm we are holding the Great NME Bowls Bash Challenge, an inter-estate competition with a shield kindly donated by Jasper Chamberlain. Open to anyone, whether they have ever played before or not, as a brief training session is all you will need to participate. The rules of Bowls Bash are very simple and we know you will have loads of fun if you give it a go. The intent is to make the bowls green available to all on the estate (at the Estate owner's request). The bar will be open throughout and food is being provided for the teams that have entered. The following companies have put forward pairs for the event so far, so a huge thanks to them: Fluid Transfer Ltd: 1 team Restoraction Ltd: 1 team Read for Good: 2 teams Vinotopia Ltd: 1 team Doddl Ltd: 2 teams Cotswold Green/Ebley Coaches: 1 team Blue Diamond Garden Centre: 1 team Morrisons: 3 teams Helpers and markers from the club will be available that evening, some coaching people as they play (checking bias, one foot on the mat, etc). We look forward to seeing you all there. Mike Isaacs Club Captain Nailsworth Mills Bowls Club Avening Road Estate Below is a poster giving details of the event that you can download:
We are sorry to have to announce that our third recruitment Fun Day with a Bowls Bash game has been cancelled due to heavy rain. The next date is Saturday 19th August 2023 from 2pm so please come along and have a go.
A beautiful sunny evening on Wednesday 21st June saw around 15 volunteer members of the club help close to 40 members of local company Topcon enjoy a great evening of bowls. None of the Topcon staff had played bowls before and most were from other European countries, but after some hasty tuition and a few loose woods they soon got their eye in. In fact, by the end of it, we would have happily signed up a good half of them as members :-) The bar was open throughout and a mountain of pizzas arrived around 8.45pm to feed everyone whilst the trophy was handed out to the winning team - plus a huge roar and the wooden spoon for the bottom team. We all had a great time and I am sure that goes for Topcon too. A huge thanks for booking the clubhouse and for displaying such great team spirit. The generous donation you gave to us will be put to good use. Bowls’ Big Weekend takes place across Friday 26th to Monday 29th May 2023!

I brief reminder that we are running a session this Tuesday evening 21st March, 2023 at the Clubhouse for any members (or potential members) that would like a run through of the Rink Diary and the Teams Games section. We have a projector and screen so everyone will be able to see. Even if you are not planning to log on and use the rink diary yourself, it will be worth attending to understand how it operates. You can have a rink buddy and you will at least know what the system is able to do to make your life easier registering for games or booking a rink yourself. Having the online system means that you or your rink buddy can quickly check to see if anyone is down at the club - without having to travel down to the green to find it all locked up and empty. We hope to answer all of your questions and explain how it all works. We reckon about an hour should do it. At the moment 11 people have confirmed as attending so, I hope we can get some more. Please send me a quick note if you can make it to: isaacs174@btinternet.com. So far we have: If you cannot make this Tuesday there will be a follow up training session on Saturday 1st April at 3pm. There are a similar number booked for that session at the moment. Of course you are welcome to attend both sessions. Team Selectors / Subadmins Most of you are now signed up on the Rink Diary, but as yet only one person other than Julia and myself is registered as a sub admin to be able to create and manage games within the Teams section. The second part of the evening will therefore be for any team or inter-club competition selectors/organisers. |
